English foundry “Stevens, Shanks & Sons” was formed in 1933 after merging with Figgins. (Figgins founder’s grandson Richard Herbert Stevens arranged the merger.)
The Shanks side began as “Patent Type-Founding Company” 1857–1881. Known as “P.M. Shanks & Co.” from 1881 and finally as “P.M. Shanks and Sons, Ltd.” until its merger with Stevens in 1933. [Wikipedia]
