GST (Georg Salden Types) was the label used by Georg
Salden from 1972 until the 1990s. Superseded by TypeManufactur.
The GST-Kreis (from 1979: Context-Gruppe) was a collaboration of
Salden with a group of phototypesetting studios, started in 1972
following an idea by Hermann J. Schlieper. At regular meetings,
Salden presented a number of design proposals, and the members
voted on which he should work on. Every month, Salden delivered a
new typeface design that was exclusive to the club members. Until
1994, this resulted in 35 display families (160 styles, for
Staromat) and 6 text families (c. 50
styles, for Diatronic). [Michael
