Claimed by the Gustav Reinhold foundry (Berlin, 1889–1893) as
their original design. Comes with an alternate ‘g’ and a number of
add-on swashes and underlines [undated
specimen]. Linotype
credits Kalligraphia to Otto Weisert, but that appears
to be a mix-up with an unrelated
design of the same name made around 1901.
Cast by Kloberg in
c. 1897 as Reclameschrift
Kalligraphia. Latter carried by Berthold who acquired both
Kloberg and Reinhold. In 1895, Berthold extended the term of
copyright which was first registered by Reinhold in July 1892.

This design or similar ones were sold by many other foundries
under various names, incl. Berling/Lehmann (as
Kalligraphia), Roos & Junge/L. Wagner/Lettergieterij
Amsterdam/Numrich/Stempel (as Reklame Kursiv),
Trennert (as Favorit), Enschedé (as Fantaisies Cursijv
Serie 9), Società Augusta (as Vulcano), Gans (as
Ronda Universal). [Reichardt
2011] Série 18 (Ollière & Cie) is a slightly
heavier wood type adaptation [1915
specimen]. Caligraph
(Caslon; also by Berthier & Durey as
Danoises) is similar. See also the lighter
Merkur (Stempel, Klingspor) and the vaguely related
Wodan (Schelter & Giesecke, 1894).
