Monotype series 297 and 319 are two sets of sans-serif capitals, outlined and partially filled. 297 combines solid and vertically hatched parts, 319 has horizontally hatched parts and leaves the rest open. Listed in the 1931/1932 addendum to Seemann under the German names Grotesk-Versallen „Schwarz u. Grau“ and „Grau u. Weiß“. The sample combines both variants.
Alembic Press lists them as Acier and mentions they were never released and withdrawn in 1965. Although the design closely follow Cassandre’s for Deberny & Peignot, there are differences, e.g. Acier Noir has no hatched parts, ‘M’ is narrower.
