Ptolemy was designed by St John Hornby, Sidney Cockerell and Emery Walker, and cut in 18pt by Edward Prince for Cervantes’ Don Quixote as published by the Ashendene Press in 1927. The type used until 1935 is a revival of Lienhart Holl’s cut for Ptolemaeus’ Cosmographia printed in 1482 in Ulm. [ANRT]
A digital revival was made by Alexis Faudot and Rafael Ribas (used for sample), based on Don Quixote (1927) and Cosmographia (1482). Directed by Jérôme Knebusch, Atelier National De Recherche Typographique (ANRT), Nancy. Made freely available in 2019 as part of ANRT’s Gotico-Antiqua series.
