Made in the early 1970s as film type by Franklin Photolettering. [Canada Type] Used already in 1972. Shown as Pinto Flare in Modern Display Alphabets (Dover, 1974), with swash and biform alternates. Copied as Maverick [Typeshop 1973] by Facsimile Fonts [Berthold 1974], and as Mustang Flair by Lettergraphics [Lettergraphics 1976]. Shown by Castcraft as Pinto Flair, with aliases Mustang and Maverick [Castcraft 1978].
Not to be confused with Pinto.
Digital interpretations include Pricedown (Typodermic, 2000–2013, 9 weights, originally based on the use for The New Price is Right) and Jazz Gothic (Canada Type, 2005, closer to the original, used for sample).
