Designed by Flemming
Bau when he was the head designer at Moesgård Museum in Aarhus,
working as an exhibition designer and illustrator with
archaeological and ethnographic themes. Bau was
created for the museum, and extended to an entire alphabet for
entering the Mecanorma competiton. According to Flemming,
Bau “is created for rather small spacing. The type is
a new, harmonious, compact type, combining psychedelic ‘flowing’
elements and strict geometric construction.” [WrittenShape]
No uppercase. Issued by Mecanorma as a contest winner around
1972 [MN Graphic
Products, 1973]. A copy is shown in Castcraft’s
Encyclopedia of Phototype Styles (1978) as
Bernham.
