Designed in 1970 by Phil Martin for his Alphabet Innovations phototype library. Formatt showed a version in their 1981 catalog as Diane Jeanine. It had alternate forms of lowercase ‘l’ and exclamation mark. A c.1976 Fürst catalog shows 3 styles, Jolly Martin (a knockoff, see interview; solid), Jolly Roger Bleached (outlined), and Jolly Roger Raised (solid w/ outlined shadow).
