Hattie Newman makes sets and images that live in advertisements, magazines, galleries, websites, books and many other places around the world.
The visual identity celebrates the endless off-cuts from the studio floor, pairing these enlarged and unusual paper forms with a set of bold colorways derived from Hattie’s work. The abstraction of these small unwanted paper forms, when put to use in this way, creates a visual look and feel intended to elevate Hattie’s practice whilst remaining rooted in her work and craft.
Lucas Sharp’s typeface Ogg, based on the wonderful work of calligrapher Oscar Ogg, is used across the site to celebrate the elegance in Hattie’s work. Dia is used exclusively in the Black cut, and contrasts heavily — used as smaller subheadings, categories and tags as well as for the logotype.
