Flower House Detroit is the visual and personal journey of project photographer Heather Saunders. Highlighting the project’s inception, preview, exhibition, and aftermath, Flower House Detroit celebrates the gift of finding beauty everywhere – even in the most unexpected places.
From the back cover of the book, published by Heather Saunders:
In October 2015, a formerly abandoned property was ambitiously transformed into a vast floral art installation. Every room, from floor to ceiling, was filled with fresh, American-grown plants and flowers. Created and led by floral designer and contemporary artist Lisa Waud, “Flower House” was brought to life with the help of floral designers from across the continent and provided an immersive and transformative experience for visitors, neighbors, volunteers, and the surrounding community.
“Like a vibrant lining inside a shabby winter coat, Flower House offered the appeal of unexpected contrast. Visitors peered into closets, porches, balconies and rooms, where curls of peeling paint suddenly seem voluptuously petal-like.”
