There were many iterations of Milton Glaser’s cat and Catskills posters which were produced for the New York Board of Tourism. Dates on these posters go all the way back from the late 1970s to the mid-90s. All use Glaser’s own Kitchen, a typeface originally produced for the World Trade Center’s cafeteria called “The Big Kitchen.” Some designs use New York State Department of Commerce’s famous “I ❤️ NY” logo (also created by Glaser) which features ITC American Typewriter. Some posters simply featured “I Love New York” or “I Love NY” spelled out.

That is the original Catskills Fall Festival poster. The 3 stripes on the body of the “Cat” represent the ski slopes at Hunter Mountain Ski area, Hunter NY, where some of the events were including the German Alps Festival. I worked for the Greene County Promotion Dept back in the late 70's thru 1982. We partnered many events with the I Love NY tourism campaign back then. Our office was originally in Cairo, NY and then moved to Catskill , NY.  I have that poster and the Winter Festival still. Framed the hanging in my living room.  The Catskills were a beautiful place to live back then.

  3. Hi Vicki, nice of you to stop by and leave a comment! And thanks for confirming that the poster for the Fall Festival was indeed the first in the series.
