An (early?) and typical use of Futura Dot with matching under- and overlines on the debut album of The Fabulous Counts, named after the last track on the record.
From the marquee-lights style typography to the unform green suits this cover screams typeical sessiuon band, which couldn’t have been further from the truth. And placing them in wooded surroundings comes in direct contrast with the gritty Detroit funk sound that these cats were laying down. Although they began with this record as primarily an instrumental group, they would soon transform to a full-on funk machine when they dropped the “Fabulous” and signed to the Westbound label. — Funk & Soul Covers (Taschen)
Good find, Matthijs! This helps to narrow down the date for Futura Dot – it is shown in PLINC’s Alphabet Thesaurus Vol.3 (1971), but not yet in Vol.2 (1965). Chances are it appeared in their Alphabet Yearbook 1969, together with Futura Fineline. I don’t have a copy to confirm, but the table of contents mentions “Futura and other Finelines p.1286–90” and “Dot-Gothics and Textures p.1343”.
