Back in 1981, Deutsche Bundespost – the German postal authority – not only deemed blackletter a suitable genre for stamps. They also had graphic artists who knew when to use the long ſ (in initial and medial position) and when to use the round s (only at the end of morphemes).

The image depicting the Nativity of Jesus is a reproduction of a reverse glass painting from Sandl, Austria, c. 1840.
