Recorded in Nashville and released by RCA Records, Pride of Country Music is the second album by Charley Pride (b. 1934) who was born as a sharecropper’s son on a cotton farm in Mississippi, and went on to become “one of the few African-Americans to have enjoyed considerable success in the country music industry and one of only three to have been inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000.” (Wikipedia).

The album cover is set exclusively in Playbill, a typeface four years younger than Pride, yet based on 19th-century “French Antique” wood type. Stars are used to create a solid text block without having to adjust the spacing between the letters of the track titles.
