Deep Groove! is a best-of compliation by American jazz saxophonist, composer, bandleader, producer Julian “Cannonball” Adderley (1928–1975). It was released by Blue Note Records in 1994. Graham Marsh used Motter Ombra in all caps for the cover typography.

  1. The illustration heavily leans on Dick Luppi’s work for Chick Corea’s Tones For Joan’s Bones album from 1968.

Talking about references: In 2012 Gert Wiescher designed a typeface named Cannonball. It closely follows Motter Ombra for most of the letters included here. Furthermore, the text used in promo graphics mentions “Jazz in the Seventies”, so I have to assume it was based on this cover.
