Kern – Beyond the Galactic Lens is not an instruction for spaced out type designers, but rather a novel by British writer of science fiction, fantasy and western novels, E.C. Tubb (1919–2010), written under one of his whopping 58 pen names, Gregory Kern. It was published in 1975 by DAW Books as the 16th volume in the Cap Kennedy series, with cover typography in all-caps Roslyn Gothic.
The concluding 17th volume, The Galactiad, followed in 1983, again with Roslyn Gothic on the cover. The display typeface by Harry Winters had previously made an appearance on Seetee Alert! (Cap Kennedy #6) from March 1974, there in both weights, but wasn’t used for any other books from the series.
