A modified Dala Prisma by Commercial Type is used for the logo of Vrbo. Founded in 1995 and originally known as Vacation Rentals by Owner (V.R.B.O.), the lodging company rebranded in March 2019 and introduced a new logo and pronunciation. The complimentary typeface used for the slogan (“Travel better together”) and for the website text is Freight Sans by GarageFonts. Instagram stories additionally use various styles of Dala Moa.
The wordmark developed by Austin-based studio FÖDA is based on Dala Prisma Fat Italic, with a more upright V and r, and a more inclined b and o. The counters have been enlarged, too. Jeff Williams, VP of Design at HomeAway, comments on the inspiration:
We were delighted to discover a pattern in our research that has been prevalent in vacations and travel for decades. Stripes! We found stripes in the clothing we wear on vacation, from board shorts to ski clothes to the classic French breton. Stripes in the destinations we visit, from umbrellas on the beach to log cabins in the mountains. And stripes in the natural landscapes we visit, from geological striations to the crest of a breaking wave.
Jett was a professor of mine in college! Wonderful man. So much of what he taught I use to this day. Great to see his work. I work near the VRBO office so I get to see the logo everyday.
