As a celebration of their 90th anniversary, Faber & Faber issued a series of short stories, published in batches of ten titles. The series is “an eclectic mix of established favourites, such as the doyenne of the crime short, P.D. James, to the hottest new talent in the genre: for example, Sally Rooney”.

Angus Cargill, Editorial Director at Faber & Faber and editor of the Stories series, speaks about the selection of the titles and the imagery of the covers series by multiple designers in an interview with Foyles:

While the format and palette were prescribed by our in-house Design team, of Donna Payne and Jonny Pelham, each individual jacket was given to a different designer, and their responses, so exciting to see, individually and collectively, truly celebrate these short fiction gems.

The cover series is typeset in a single style and size of Albertus Nova, a revival of Berthold Wolpe’s original by Toshi Omagari. Another Wolpe revival by Omagari is used as the brand typeface of publishers Faber & Faber: it’s Pegasus.
