The Visitors – “Theme from Close Encounters”/ “The Other Side” Belgian single cover

An exclusively typographic design featuring three all-caps typefaces, printed in two colors, for the Belgian sleeve of “Theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, a disco version of the instrumental hit single by composer John Williams.
“The Visitors” is set in ITC Pioneer in backwards rotalics, i.e. with each letter rotated to the left. This makes them look as if they were levitating in the hexagonal cone of light, and gravitating toward the top, following the words in Premier Shaded that are already on their way up to the spaceship. The aptly named “The Other Side” is in Roco, which here looks more techno than Art Deco. All three faces were part of Letraset’s range of instant lettering products.
