Koto Sanpo is a new premium matcha cafe and restaurant located in Brisbane’s Elizabeth Arcade. Harley Johnston Design developed the branding to emphasise of the name which translates to a peaceful stroll around Kyoto. The logo and graphic elements show abstracted traditional style illustrated clouds which also double as an ancient map. The graphic was then used across all visual touchpoint from menus to signage. Imagery from Kyoto was used in promotional posters and hoarding wraps.

The headline font Trio Grotesk by Schick Toikka was chosen for its calm relaxed elegant feel, set wide to add to the slow pace. Untitled Sans by Klim was chosen as a neutral workhorse for all lower level type (not pictured here). Yu Kyokasho was used for the Japanese text in the logo and on the menu boards for its traditional hand crafted feel.
