Style Wars directed by Tony Silver has become something of a landmark documentary, since it was released in 1983. The subject matter mostly focused on graffiti and its roots in America. Other sections of Hip Hop culture like rapping and breakdancing are also covered. Graffiti legends Crash, Zephyr, Futura, DONDI, and Kase2 appear as well as breakdancers Crazy Legs and Frosty Freeze. New York City mayor Ed Koch is interviewed and his efforts to restrict graffiti are also featured.

The documentary played on PBS in 1983 and won Grand Jury Prize: Documentary at the first Sundance Film Festival in 1984.
