Neo-Tribe 2020: When a society moves apart for a momentis the title of an online Hangul exhibition that took place from May 11th to 24th, 2020.
Neo-Tribe 2020 was organized and hosted by Leedotype as a special project commissioned by Seoul Metropolitan Government. Showcasing Hangul typeface design by 17 artists, all the exhibitions, events, and talks were held online. In this exhibition, people living in this social-distancing period of time were defined as Neo-Tribe, meaning new tribes. In the virtual space where Neo-Tribe lives in, digital fonts on mobile displays have replaced their own voices.
17 Hangul type designers in this exhibition became the voice of each Neo-Tribe to express and deliver their message in the form of typeface design when they are away from the whole society for a moment.
The 17 phrases coined and displayed by designers were carefully selected to express the positive side of the view that could create bonds between Neo-Tribe rather than overly aggressive or socially critical contents. By doing this, this project aimed to give our regards to virtual neighbors and deliver a message of hope for the new way of life in this period of time.
Developed by Sandoll Inc., Greta Sans Korean has been newly added to the Greta Sans family, one of the largest type systems commercially available. Its mischievous humanist Hangul letterforms are the best fit with Greta sans Latin and are also perfect for a youthful and fresh atmosphere. The font is now on a beta test, and after the official release in October 2020, it will be available both in SandollCloud and Typotheque’s website.
