Blessed is the man who, having nothing to say, abstains from giving in words evidence of the fact.

Specimen poster for York, featuring a quote by George Eliot set with tight letterspacing and linespacing. York was Georg Salden’s first release, selected in 1966 as one of 15 award winning type face designs in the National Type Face Design Competition sponsored by Visual Graphics Corporation. In a blog post celebrating Salden’s 90th birthday on 28 August 2020, LudwigType describes York as having “a distinctive written character, highlighting how familiar the designer is with written script.”

Poster design by Herb Lubalin, with illustration by Shelley Sacks. Typositor typography: Typographics Communications, Inc. Printing: Drum Lithographers, Inc. Publisher: Harlin Quist, Inc. See more posters from this competition.
