The first issue of what was to become an occassional publication by “The House of Doulton”, the pottery company then based on the Albert Embankment in Lambeth, London, but whose extensive trade in both fine pottery and industrial ware such as stoneware, saw them with works spread across England. The brochure, beautifully produced and in the then contemprary vogue of spiral binding, covers the whole range of Doulton’s products such as figurines, clay pipes, building faience, sanitary ware and even laboratory and chemical process equipment.

The modernist cover design combines photography and illustration with all-caps typography using the extrafett and fett styles of Beton. The rational slab serif was designed by Heinrich Jost and issued by the Bauer foundry in the early 1930s.
