If provocation in fashion photography was a typeface, it would be Black Mamba Venom by Swiss Typefaces.

In fact, this editorial publication – made as a student project at the Politecnico di Milano – aims to show how Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin, and Oliviero Toscani, through their constant provocations, have revolutionized fashion photography.

Black Mamba proved to be the perfect font: on the one hand it recalls the elegance of high fashion, with its subtle graces and well-defined contrasts; on the other hand it is aggressive and bold, almost bipolar. It shows itself as an innovation of Didot’s classicism, mixing serif and sans serif, dissolving traditional graces almost as if they were caramel. In short, it is pure provocation and innovation, like the provocative innovators of the book. For this reason Black Mamba gains space in the editorial composition, helped by a bright pink hue.

As for the body text, Neurial Grotesk from Indian Type Foundry was used. A readable typeface without graces and readable even in a minimal body size, whose function is to balance and balance the typographical composition.
