Bob Newman’s Penny Farthing (Letraset, 1974) used with many of its nested alternates, for Współczesny Teatr Czarnej Afryki (“Contemporary Black African Theater”). Originally published under the title African Theatre Today (London: Pitman, 1976), this is the Polish edition translated by Witold Kalinowski and published by Państwowy Instytut Wydawniczy (PIW) in 1980.

Edited by Martin Banham and Clive Wake, the book provides “an overview of the plays of writers from West and East Africa, sorted by English and French-speaking countries. The authors present the works of playwrights, their theatrical activities, social and political involvement, analyzing the themes of the works, national forms blended into the general panorama of the cultural life of Black Africa in the 1960s and 1970s.”
