The jacket of the wonderful book of Saul Leiter’s photographs uses an interesting and unusual pairing of not simply a Roman and Italic, but rather a Roman (in this case, Scotch Roman) with an English-style Roundhand script hand (Snell Roundhand).

The original edition was published in Japan in 2017 by Seigensha Art Publishing in Kyoto, and then subsequently translated and published by RM Editorial based in Barcelona, Spain. The first edition’s cover was designed by Osamu Ouchi, and used a different photo by Leiter than the one used on the edition shown above. A few other editions of this books were published with different covers and different typeface combined, or different typeface treatments all together (like the French edition, below).

You can learn more about Saul Leiter and his work over at the Saul Leiter Foundation website.
