Bitterschön packaging

    The graphic identity for adult soft drink Bitterschön created by Barkas is a successful example of the ever popular neo-nostalgia trend in graphic design.

    Queens by Kilotype functions as the main typeface and logomark. The quirky charm of the Compressed Light style is emphasised by spacing it even tighter and interspersing it with some letters set in italic.

    The idea of nostalgia for a bittersweet, non-alcoholic drink made from natural ingredients fits like a glove. Apart from the retro imagery and colours, Barkas achieved the very distinct look through the variety of typefaces they used:

    Next to Queens we can see Editorial New, available from Pangram Pangram Foundry and two sans-serif designs, Neue Montreal, also from Pangram Pangram, and Lars, released by Bold Decisions.

    A set of animated graphics frames the project most smoothly and appealingly.
