First published in 1956 by Putnam, this is the cover of the 1979 edition by Godfrey Cave Associates Ltd, London. The Victorian typeface is Filmotype Quentin, here probably Letraset’s adaptation that’s simply named Quentin. It was added to their range of typefaces for dry transfer lettering sometime before 1976. The secondary typeface is ITC Serif Gothic, which was likewise available from Letraset.

The jacket for Putnam’s edition (shown is the second impression from 1961) uses some charming bichromatic lettering. I don’t know if the wide shaded Tuscan with bifurcated serifs is based on a typeface. Carlyle Acanthus or Carnival Open come somewhat close.
