“With the famous “cannon-cover” a sleeve unique to Sweden, this photo was shot during their first visit to here in October 1963.” — Nostalgipalatset

Throughout the 1960s, Skandinaviska Grammophon AB—effectively the Swedish division of EMI—released Beatles singles and EPs with unique sleeves. This 1964 EP features the Art Deco style typeface Trio (which came in 3 styles: A, B, and C). Very similar to Broadway, but the capital B is notably different. So too are the H and E. The face was designed for the German foundry Schriftguss AG by Henry R. Möller. After World War II, the company was expropriated by the East German state and eventually became a part of VEB Typoart.

While the All My Loving EP is the earliest example, the Swedish label used the typeface again in 1966 for the “Yellow Submarine”/ “Eleanor Rigby” single, there paired with all-caps Futura Light.
