Written by Kutter and “visually organised” by Karl Gerstner in 1957. Published by Arthur Niggli in Teufen.
Markus Kutter (1925–2005) and Karl Gerstner were cofounders of GGK (Gerstner, Gredinger & Kutter) – a famous Swiss advertising agency.
The large type used on the cover and throughout the book is likely handset Akzidenz-Grotesk. Günter Gerhard Lange’s AG Old Face is a 1980s attempt to revive the early versions of Akzidenz, and I believe it is the digital font family that is most similar to the type you see in this book.
The first book by the recently established Swiss publisher Triest Verlag will be a reprint of Schiff nach Europa. This new edition will stay true to the original. One side of the jacket will provide the original cover, the other side has an updated version including a commentary by Felix Wiedler.
