The Abecedarian Book is “an alphabet book of big words for adults with the curiosity of children with the capacity of adults”. Written by Charles W. Ferguson and illustrated by John Alcorn, it was published by Little, Brown & Co. in 1964.

  1. Thank you very much, Felix! I have added a few more typeface IDs. I believe the word “BOOK” on the jacket is a light version of Columbus. I haven’t been able to find the typeface used for “ABC” on the cover, as well as the one for the big single letters in the interior. If it’s a typeface (as opposed to custom drawn letterforms), that is.

    Several of the featured faces including Safari, Campanile, Grant No. 2 were included in the Morgan Press Collection. That’s not too surprising: John Alcorn designed the catalogs for this series of revivals of wood and foundry typefaces.
