Cover by Kurt Wirth, although it’s not clear whether he was responsible for more than the illustration. I looked for other Fischer books from this era that used Pascal, but couldn’t find any. Your help is welcome!

That’s a crazy eszett. Obviously Mendoza wasn’t German, but I would expect something more refined from him. The rest of the typeface is a gem and largely undiscovered.

  1. I came across this one recently via Aqua-Velvet. No, I’m not aware of any other Fischer paperbacks with Pascal. Several from this period – early ’70s – use the crazy Thalia.

    There is an earlier edition (1966) with basically the same illustration by Wirth (in the original colors?), but with standard Helvetica:
