G2 Erika in use for banner design conceived by students from Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien for a public intervention calling to mind the expulsion of Jews from public spaces, exemplified by the eviction of Austrian jews from Schillerpark in Vienna 1938.

On the initiative of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Jews were to be expelled from Schillerplatz in 1938 by a decree of the City of Vienna. To this day, there has been no reappraisal either by the city or by the Academy. Within the framework of a project seminar, students have now taken up this reappraisal and planned interventions and manifestations, especially as the renovation of the Academy building gives reason to critically examine the historiography.

To take a critical look at the historiography. The complex entanglements of student body, institution and city are to be dealt with from today’s student perspective.
The rally shows contemporary and historical perspectives on Jewish life in Vienna. The intervention will manifest itself in the Schillerpark itself, the place that was to become the scene of the unlawful expulsion.

The event was framed by speeches from JÖH (Jüdische österreichische Hochschüler:innen), the DÖW (Dokumentationsarchiv des österreichischen Widerstands) and by Susanne Scholl (Omas gegen Rechts).
