With letterforms filled with stars and a rainbow, Hubertus Mall’s typographic cover design for MPS Variation 76 is a bit like the DIY version of Andre Chante’s Indigo, cf. the cover of Novum Gebrauchsgraphik from June 1972, or the Hollenstein 74 poster. The chosen typeface is Berthold’s Block Condensed, in outlined caps. I wonder whether it bothered the designer that there was no space left for another 6 on the last line.

MPS Variation is a series of annual compilations, sent by German jazz label MPS Records to their customers as an end-of-the-year gift.
