Originally titled Six contes moraux, this is the first American edition of Éric Rohmer’s novel Six Moral Tales, a literary version of the French director’s film cycle of the same name. Translated from the French by Sabine d’Estree, it was published as Seaver book, an imprint of the Viking Press, New York, in 1980.

For the jacket typography, designer Roy Kuhlman used two weights of Wexford, stacked and justified. Originally designed by Richard A. Schlatter for VGC in 1972, this typeface was copied by Castcraft as Eton (and later digitized as OPTI Eton).
