Indépendant was released in 1930, to commemorate the centennial of Belgian independence from the Netherlands. I don’t think the foundry typeface by Établissements Plantin and their parent company Lettergieterij „Amsterdam” was distributed in Germany, at least I haven’t come across any examples of it. In 1969, though, a phototype version is listed in a catalog by the Frankfurt office of Adolph Fürst & Sohn, a German chain of typesetting studios.

In the same year, Indépendant featured on the sleeve of a 7″ single by Jethro Tull, with A-side “Living in the Past”. It’s used in two colors – with contour for the song titles and a perspective shade for the band name – and combined with a crudely screened photo.
