The Jomox Mbase 11 is an analog bass drum synthesizer, and a sequel to the MBase01. I used to have one of these machines, and always appreciated the unique typography. It’s not perfect and polished, but it offers so much to look at and explore.

At first, it might appear that more than one typeface was used on the front panel—not counting the Jomox logo. But the typography stems from a somewhat double-headed beast called World of Water, designed by Ray Larabie (Typodermic) in 1998.

The underlined Os are just the capital O in the typeface. In fact, most of the more playful and curious letterforms in this typeface—like the triangle-A, the strangely curved B and P, and the small-bowled Q with a long, descending tail—come from the capital letters, while the lowercase is marginally more toned down.
