Aloma Hawaiians – “Hawaii-Temper” single cover

These Hawaiians don’t hail from the Pacific. They are band from Schwanden im Emmental, Switzerland, and might have chosen their name in reverence of Hal Aloma, a real Hawaiian musician. This double 7″ was released in 1974, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Orchester Aloma, on a Swiss record label named Swiss Record.

Cover designer Hans Marti used Nicola Russo’s multiline gem Neo Prisma (Mecanorma, 1972) for the band name. The tilde used as hyphen indicates that the titles in ITC Avant Garde Gothic (1970) were added with dry transfer lettering, too: Letraset offered plenty of such diacritics on their sheets, and to many designers, the undulating line looked cooler than a plain hyphen.
