Bice Lazzari: Modernist Pioneer
Exploring the aesthetics of Art Informel, minimalism and hard-edged abstraction, Bice Lazzari was an artist from Venice who made a significant contribution to twentieth-century Italian art, yet has remained largely unknown outside her native country.
Organised in collaboration with the Archivio Bice Lazzari, Rome, this exhibition at the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art features some 40 works highlighting the artist’s lyrical and highly original interpretation of abstract art.
The catalogue uses duo colour overprinting with offset lithography as a way of relating to the time and aesthetic of the artist’s work. The cover graphic was made by overprinting her painting Acrylic n.5 twice in two colours at 180° rotation, generating a new abstract composition
