Multiple widths of Garaje are mixed and used for the headlines of the Epimeta publication, with Favorit used for paragraphs with text set either upright or italic.
L’oggettività, dunque, forse non esiste. Ma è dando egual credito ad ognuna delle soggettività che si esprime su un dato argomento che è possibile ricostruire un quadro tanto variegato quanto completo dell’argomento stesso.
Shape of Things. A Philosophy of Design by Vilém Flusser was published in 2003. The second chapter of the book, the one about the Submarine, is the starting point for the EPIMETA project. It is a utopian tale in which a group of seventeen men and women from different fields (science, art, religion…) meet in a submarine (self-sufficient in energy, food and intellect) in order to impose its rule on humanity. This book has been designed to explain what’s behind the laboratory, its intentions and precedents.
The project wa designed by Veronica Paoli with Celeste Quercia & Rachele Bozzato as a student project for Metodologia della comunicazione at ISIA Urbino, under supervision of Marco Tortoioli Ricci. The booklet was displayed at the exhibition Il mestiere di grafico – oggi at Triennale Milano.
In “Se una notte d’inverno un viaggiatore” EPIMETA takes up the process of identification: participants are asked to identify themselves as those who have the power to decide for many, a power which is often far removed and neglected when it comes to expressing ‘simple’ opinions.
The attribution of responsability to the individual thus allows, also in the case of EPIMETA, another type of boundary to be broken down: that between the sphere of the individual and that of the collective, drawing attention to issues that are as common as they are too often under-examined.
EPIMETA refers to Balestrini’s dramaturgy of the project in experimental research aimed to obtain a collection of possible outcomes and possible stories to tell, in which even opposite hypoteses can coexist.
