This poster was designed for an exhibition at the Type Directors Club (TDC). The content of each poster came via messages in fortune cookies. The statement “Perfection is Your Everlasting Goal” started out on our screen as a vector layout using the “perfect” typeface Helvetica. Realizing how boring this would be if we pursued this idea further, we then became interested in the idea of visualizing the process of decay upon Helvetica letterforms to transform them into entirely new forms, and to question the notion of perfection. We searched out examples of such letterforms in our immediate environment in Brooklyn, and found a few letters we liked on the side of a moving truck that had been exposed to the sun and the weather for many decades. Using those letters as inspiration we then built in Photoshop the entire message.
