QUEER: Stories from the NGV Collection is a collection-spanning exhibition in the National Gallery of Victoria that shares the queer stories art can tell. It works from a queer perspective, and is accompanied by a 600+ page catalog. The catalog and exhibition identity are typeset in Dover Serif Text, primarily using its Regular and Italic styles, and the designers get a lot of mileage out of these two.

Across 628 pages, the catalog/essay collection shares stories, histories, manifestos, essays and gorgeous visuals from the exhibition. For such an overwhelming amount of information, the small type selection actually brings peace to the experience. With the various type sizes and layouts, it still feels dynamic and complex.

For a queer type designer, this is a dream use case. It not only captures what I care about in life, but also showcases how small type families can do complex work. The designers took out everything that I put in. I rarely play favourites, but this project is special.
