The Death and Life of Great American Cities is a book by American-Canadian author, urbanist and activist Jane Jacobs (1916–2006). First published in hardback by Random House in 1961, the book is “a critique of 1950s urban planning policy, which it holds responsible for the decline of many city neighborhoods in the United States.” This is the cover for Pelican’s paperback edition from 1972, using left-aligned Helvetica in two weights.
