Before a public release and still in development, the Axia typeface family was licensed to the Rice School of Architecture for temporary exclusive use. The project’s brief included the design of a visual identity system consisting of a logotype and wordmark, a subsidiary typographic range, and a color palette for cohesive print and screen applications.

Axia is a sans serif uniwidth typeface composed of concise letterforms. Each of the roman and italic weights harmonize perfectly in width without a changing line length. Text set in Light or Black results in the same economical fit. Two display styles, Axia Stencil Light and Axia Stencil Black, feature a unique aesthetic with distinct fragmentation of the letters that gives this stencil design its unique characteristic.

See also a post on the 2012 rebranding on the Type Network website, including a showing of Axia’s uniwidth character set.
