Shortly after the song “Frosty the Snowman” was released in 1950, it was adapted for the Little Golden Books series, retold by Annie North Bedford and illustrated by Corinne Malvern. While the first edition was published by Simon & Schuster, this is the twenty-third printing by Golden Press, an imprint of Western Publishing, from 1972, with a new cover design.

The title on the cover appears to be lettering based on Cruz Swinger. This design by Ray Cruz was originally released as film typeface by Schaedler around 1970. It was copied by VGC as Zinger, and offered by Formatt for dry transfer lettering under the alias Carnaby. For Frosty, the letterforms were redrawn with slightly different details: some of the foxtail terminals were dropped, the counter in R was made circular, and the lowercase lighter – see the comparison further below.

The icy letters on the title page are custom drawn. They were already present on the cover of the first edition from 1950.
