Kenny Burrell – Midnight Blue album art

The non-descending ‘g’ is probably a custom creation, especially adjusted to the design of the sleeve. See this comparison of Aurora/Neue Aurora and Inserat Grotesk on Stephen’s Flickr stream. Indra suggests that the designer perhaps took his inspiration from the descenderless Permanent Headline, which is “a similar design with same roots, a bit more regularized — and much cooler! Permanent is so undeservedly underloved.” She also notes that the overshoot of ‘d’ looks pretty extreme in this version. It might be a custom lettering job, and only loosely based on Aurora or a similar typeface.
Where can I find Neue Aurora?
I tried to do this using Aurora. Yeah the ‘g’ was elusive. But I got how to do it. Also I made the ‘b’ and it’s slightly longer?
Great work, though!
Satish, there is no digital version of the typeface, but if you click on the Neue Aurora sample in the sidebar you’ll find several similar digital fonts in “Related Typefaces”. The closest one is probably Wagner Grotesk which you can use to emulate this cover art pretty easily by lengthening just the stems on the ‘b’ and ‘l’ and reducing the straight parts of the ‘g’.
