In their identity for London’s Bridge Theatre, Koto employ a bold, decidedly comtemporary manner. Centered around a rotated element they call “the beam”, typography plays out with a clear and confident voice. Jonas Hecksher’s Italian Plate No2 cuts most of the slack, with elegant support from Miguel Reyes’ “Latin American Caslon”, Canela.

    Words from Koto:

Founded by Nicholas Hytner and Nick Starr in 2017, the Bridge Theatre was the first commercial theatre to be built in London for over 50 years. The revolutionary space designed by architects Howarth Tompkins has the ability to transform itself for a wide variety of shows and events.

The logo is built around a simple icon we call ‘Beam’. Named after a piece of theatre lighting terminology, this bridge like mechanic stays static in position, across logo formats, and becomes the instant icon at the centre of the whole identity.

    1. This post about the Bridge Theatre identity was originally contributed by Love Lagerkvist and published on June 17, 2017. On July 6, 2022, we published another post about it submitted by Playtype. Since we generally don’t do duplicates about the same project, I have merged the info and images into a single post.
