Handbill for a concert by El Morito Y Su Grupo at Los Cardenales in Uruguay. Date unknown. Printed in a single color, the design brings together a multitude of typefaces as well as lettering. The venue’s name is in caps from Arnold Böcklin, with Optima for “Restaurant Bar”. The typeface used for the band name is unidentified. Grotesque No. 9 Italic is used for “Grupo” and Univers Condensed for the names, while “Musica Viva” features the inescapable Helvetica. “Gato Flores” starts out with what looks like Balloon Light. “Abrimos los domingos” is set in reversed all-caps Futura, and “Atencion personal” in Times New Roman or similar.

  1. The date for this poster dates from between the 1970s to 1980s. The text NO COVER NO MÍNIMO might possibly be a slanted Compacta Black.

Quite possible. But what makes you say so?

In Compacta, verticals in N are heavier than the diagonal. Also, the diagonals of V are evenly weighted. This doesn’t seem to be the case here.

  3. So it could be a version of this font with contrast then?
